17 Year Reunion

This past Saturday was my 16-17 year reunion with my high school buddies.

I can't say that it was a lot of planning on my part....my co-planner, Suzie, volunteered her house for the event, and splurged for the burgers and dogs. Her house is like a wonderland for kids. It has a basketball court, hockey surface, pool, putting green, jungle gym and hot tub; NOT ONCE did the kids ask their parents to leave. They were having a grand time. The day was filled with laughter, conversation and great food.

I must admit that for the few weeks that preceded the reunion date, I was a bit of a mess. I was worried that not many people would show. This fear comes from the last 10 or so events that I have either organized or attended, whereby people RSVP'd as a yes and then never showed. The most recent example of this, was my Tuesday night volleyball organizing. I had 7 people, double confirm with me, and when it came down to the wire, none of them signed up. I was so happy that I didn't
sign the team up on my credit card, as I would have been doubly pissed. Needless to say, my faith is people's "word" was very low. I even went so far as to bet Suzie 10 dollars that less than 30 of the 43 that confirmed would actually show up. Two hours into the event, we were missing only 2 of the girls.

Some of the girls I have known since elementary school. A few of us were in the same class from grade 3 and on. It amazed me, that after 16 years apart, it was as though no time had passed at all. Everyone had different lives, some married - some single. Some with kids, some pregnant. Regardless of how our lives had progressed, we were all excited to go back in time, reminiscing about our childhood and teenage years. There was a general consensus that none of us felt 35. It was as though we were pretending to live adult lives, whereas we all still felt 17 inside.

It was the best 10 dollars I ever lost.

Sounds like everyone had a blast. I'm really glad everything turned out so well because I know this event in particular was very important to you.
