Sunnybrook Park

I know I have blogged many times about my disappointment in many people. I don't understand how some people get as far as they do in life, being so ignorant. As I drive into the park, I see first hand how ignorant people are. They obviously came to the park for a picnic on the Sunday with all of their family, utilized the BBQs and the picnic tables....ate heartily all day, salads, burgers, pop, chips - you name it. And then, they stand up from the picnic table and walk out of there. Not one thing has been picked up and moved to the garbage. Now imagine what the site looks like after a few hundred raccoons have rummaged through it.
I think of the park staff that now has to go to that site to clean it up. All because of these fucking ignorant people that think life owes them something.. so they leave their mess for someone else to deal with. Last Friday, as I was driving into the park, someone decided to kick/push over all of the garbage and recycling metal bins. Garbage and recycling everywhere. Now, I don't know if this was a result of the garbage strike, but either way, it was childish and again, ignorant. The park staff would likely be the ones moving them back their upright position and picking up garbage.
The other day, I was at McDonalds with my friends. We got there during a weekday lunch hour when school was still in session. It was packed. I knew these kids were from the public high school down the street. These kids were throwing food, yelling and being complete shits. There must have been about 50 kids in there, and they all seemed to leave at the same time. Not ONE KID brought their tray to the garbage to empty it. Two managers and the lobby person spent the next 10 minutes throwing out garbage and wiping down chairs and tables. I was chatting with one of the managers about it and he said that he thinks it should start at home. Parents needs to teach their kids these small lessons every day. I mentioned to my friends that it was disappointing to see kids that were so unruly and without a conscience. Seconds later, 4 boys from the private school down the road sat across from us. They ate their food quietly. I mentioned how the attitudes were completely different from the attitudes at the public school. It sold me at that moment - I had so much more respect for these private school kids.
And then, as though the world was laughing at my optimism, the kids got up and left.
Quietly.
They also left their trays and garbage on the table.
Argghhh. What the hell?

That type of thing really bothers me too. I've seen adults walk away leaving all their garbage at the table as well, and I usually make sure it is a 'teachable moment' for my kids. I point out how inconsiderate their actions were, so I don't have kids that grow up doing that kind of thing.
I'm so bothered by it - that when I am in a "fast-food" place that you ARE supposed to leave your garbage on the table, I still feel guilty leaving it!
I hear yah? We were just at McDonalds last week and the table next to us did the same thing and it was a mom with her 5 year old son. Huge mountain of mess just left there. It does start at home!
